Injured hiker rescued from NH mountain summit

BROOKFIELD, N.H. — New Hampshire conservation officers and volunteer firemen have rescued a 61-year-old hiker who injured his knee near the summit of Copple Crown Mountain in Brookfield.

Officials say 61-year-old Richard Healey of Wolfeboro and his wife, Maxine, had reached the top of the mountain Thursday when he slipped and injured his knee. His wife used a cellphone to summons help.

The Fish and Game Department conservation officers — aided by 15 volunteer firefighters from Wolfeboro, Wakefield and New Durham — carried Healey down a half-mile of very steep and rocky trail. They reached the New Durham trailhead on Mountain Drive at about 2:30 p.m.
