Don't Rollback Protections for Wildlife
From: National Wildlife Federation Action Fund <info@nwa.org>
Date: May 10, 2017 7:04 AM
Subject: Don't Rollback Protections for Wildlife
Tell the Environmental Protection Agency: Don't rollback basic protections for wildlife! | View in Browser
Don't Rollback Basic Protections Depended on by Wildlife
Dear Visitor,
I won't mince words. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's "regulatory reform" that includes "repeal, replacement, or modification" of safeguards is anything but reform. It is a frontal assault on decades of basic protections that ensure wildlife and habitat have the clean air and healthy waters they need to survive and thrive.
Take action TODAY by urging the Environmental Protection Agency to keep in place important protections for wildlife and not rollback these safeguards.
TAKE ACTION »
Rolling back basic environmental protections would be devastating for wildlife and the outdoors. We can't afford more toxic mercury in our air and water that will compromise loons' ability to thrive, more paved over wetlands that destroy crucial aquatic habitats, or unchecked climate pollution driving higher temperatures that fuel more devastating forest fires and tick infestations in moose. Almost five decades worth of bi-partisan protections supported by Republican and Democratic administrations, based on laws passed overwhelmingly in Congress, are at risk.
Without strong protections for clean air and clean water and a safer climate, the rivers, lakes, streams, mountains, coasts, plains and climate that we and wildlife depend on will suffer. The Environmental Protection Agency intends to bow to industry pressure and rollback or remove many of these protections.
The Environmental Protection Agency is accepting public comments right now, please submit a message BEFORE the May 15th deadline.
Under both Republican and Democratic Presidents, protective rules were crafted—based on sound science and well vetted, transparent processes—to keep wildlife like loons and thousands of others safe from pollution and habitat degradation.
Virtually all evidence suggests that the benefits of these protections outweigh the costs, often vastly. Moreover, the benefits accrue broadly to the public, keeping people healthier, protecting wildlife and enabling everyone to better enjoy our abundant natural resources.
Take action now. Wildlife can't bear the costs of the pollution that a rollback of basic protections would bring.
Thanks for all you do for wildlife and our natural world.
Sincerely,
Collin O'Mara

Bighorn sheep are at risk in Grand Staircase - Escalante National Monument #NPS
At 1.88 million acres, Utah's Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument is larger than the combined footprints of the state's "Mighty 5" national parks and Cedar Breaks National Monument.
That's too big, according to a resolution approved Wednesday by the Utah Senate after passage last week in the House.
HCR12 calls on Utah's federal delegation to support a reduction or modification of the monument, which was created by then-President Bill Clinton in 1996.

Solar Employs More People In U.S. Electricity Generation Than Oil, Coal And Gas Combined
Data journalist covering technological, societal and media topics
Opinions expressed by Forbes Contributors are their own
In the United States, more people were employed in solar power last year than in generating electricity through coal, gas and oil energy combined. According to a new report from the U.S. Department of Energy, solar power employed 43 percent of the Electric Power Generation sector's workforce in 2016, while fossil fuels combined accounted for just 22 percent. It's a welcome statistic for those seeking to refute Donald Trump's assertion that green energy projects are bad news for the American economy.
Just under 374,000 people were employed in solar energy, according to the report, while coal, gas and oil power generation combined had a workforce of slightly more than 187,000. The boom in the country's solar workforce can be attributed to construction work associated with expanding generation capacity. The gulf in employment is growing with net generation from coal falling 53 percent over the last decade. During the same period, electricity generation from natural gas increased 33 percent while solar expanded 5,000 percent.
Fuel production and electricity generation together directly employed 1.9 million workers last year, according to the report, with 55%, or 1.1 million, working with fossil fuels. The DoE ident..... cont. below Solar Employs More People In U.S. Electricity Generation Than Oil, Coal And Gas Combined

SOS: BREAKING: Trump puts Big Oil in charge of EPA

Subject: BREAKING: Trump puts Big Oil in charge of EPA
Help us defend the EPA against Trumps anti-science, anti-environment nomination.

Make an EMERGENCY gift to help us stop confirmation of Trump's EPA pick Scott Pruitt.
Dear Dave,
Unreal.
Trump just nominated one of Big Oil's greatest allies to head the EPA:
His pick, Oklahoma Attorney General Scott Pruitt, denies climate change is real. Pruitt viciously attacked the EPA and its efforts to stop air and water pollution. He's literally the mouthpiece of Big Oil, taking talking points written by energy lobbyists to publicly attack Obama's Clean Power Plan.
This is like putting an arsonist in charge of fighting fires.
Our environment, our children's health, and the future of our natural world are on the line. We're mobilizing to pressure the Senate from confirming Big Oil Pruitt, but we need your financial support to win this fight:
Pruitt's own bio proudly declares he "is a leading advocate against the EPA's activist agenda."
Instead, he's been a leading advocate for Big Oil's agenda. In a New York Times expose, journalists discovered that letters Pruitt sent challenging Federal clean air regulators were actually written by energy lobbyists. In return, Big Polluters filled Pruitt's campaign coffers.
This is a disaster. Scott Pruitt will undoubtedly fulfill Trump's promise to reduce the EPA to "tidbits."
This nomination is so extreme, we actually have a shot at stopping Pruitt's confirmation. But we've got to rally and show Senators that Americans didn't vote to let fossil fuel executives run our government, destroy our climate, or undermine decades of progress on cleaning up our air and water.
Donate now to our EMERGENCY campaign to stop Scott Pruitt from being confirmed as EPA Chief.
It's time to show Trump that we will not allow him to destroy what we've fought so hard to protect. Clean water, clean air, and our children's health are too important.
Please respond today -- this will be one of the most consequential fights for our environment.
Onward,
Michael Brune

It is snowing at #STANDINGROCK right now and water cannons are planned ahead. Please help now!
It's ❄snowing❄ at #STANDINGROCK right now, and the Dakota police force are gearing up for another water cannon session....Prayers, meditation, & good vibes for everyone there. It is VERY much needed.
In case you may not have known: people are likely to start DYING at Standing Rock-- if they aren't already:
The Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council released this statement: “The physicians and tribal healers with the Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council call for the immediate cessation of use of water cannons on people who are outdoors in 28F ambient weather with no means of active rewarming in these conditions. As medical professionals, we are concerned for the real risk of loss of life due to severe hypothermia under these conditions.”
Not to mention continuous mass tear gas, rubber bullets, as well as stinger grenades and LRAND (Long Range Acoustic Device) for 3 hours
Law enforcement also shot down three media drones and targeted journalists with less lethal rounds.
National Lawyers Guild legal observers on the frontlines have confirmed that multiple people were unconscious and bleeding after being shot in the head with rubber bullets. One elder went into cardiac arrest at the frontlines but medics administered CPR and were able to resuscitate him. The camp’s medical staff and facilities are overwhelmed and the local community of Cannonball has opened their school gymnasium for emergency relief.
