Injured hiker rescued from NH mountain summit

BROOKFIELD, N.H. — New Hampshire conservation officers and volunteer firemen have rescued a 61-year-old hiker who injured his knee near the summit of Copple Crown Mountain in Brookfield.

Officials say 61-year-old Richard Healey of Wolfeboro and his wife, Maxine, had reached the top of the mountain Thursday when he slipped and injured his knee. His wife used a cellphone to summons help.

The Fish and Game Department conservation officers — aided by 15 volunteer firefighters from Wolfeboro, Wakefield and New Durham — carried Healey down a half-mile of very steep and rocky trail. They reached the New Durham trailhead on Mountain Drive at about 2:30 p.m.

Rescued Dog from Colorado Mountain top now the center of a custody battle

PHOTO: Missy, a 4-year-old German Shepherd stranded in the wild, was left for dead and saved by a group of eight hikers.

This owner should never be allowed to be within 500 yards of an animal ever again!  He has the nerve to want Missy back after never reporting her hurt or stranded and basically left for dead.  If it was himself or his immediate family I would be willing to bet he would call for help.  Lock him up!  Poor Missy should never be    exposed to this man ever again.  I am outraged and hope this man is never allowed custody of this beautiful dog, EVER AGAIN!

Hiker Rescued from Mount Chocorua in Albany NH

ALBANY, N.H. (AP) - New Hampshire officials say a Massachusetts man had to be rescued after injuring himself while hiking a steep trail in the White Mountains.

The Fish and Game Department says 38-year-old Richard Macedo of Methuen could no longer hike after falling at 3:30 p.m. Saturday half a mile from the summit of Mount Chocorua in Albany.

After Macedo's girlfriend called 911 on her cellphone, Fish and Game officers and volunteers from area rescue services and fire departments hiked up the mountain and carried Macedo 3½ miles back down to safety.

When they reached bottom at 10 p.m., an ambulance took Macedo to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for evaluation and treatment.
